Wenderholm Regional Park

Te Awa O Puhoi River

Te Awa O Puhoi River

We stayed the night in Auckland with Cally’s family. Then we headed up to the Northland Region of New Zealand. Our first stop was at Wenderholm Regional Park. While there, we took a short hike up to a lookout point of where the Puhoi River flows into the ocean. It was raining but the view was still nice. In front of the hiking trail was a pouwhenua. Pouwhenua are carved wooden posts used by the Maori. Like totem poles, they often tell a story. We also saw a historic house in the park called the Couldrey House in the park.
